He began his career with Philips in 1969 holding several positions in product management, marketing and general management in Personal Care, Philips Shavers (presently known as DAP) and Consumer Products (now part of Consumer Electronics) in the Netherlands and Mexico. In 1985, he became Managing Director of Grundig Appliances in Germany and later was the Executive Vice-President and member of the Board of Management, Grundig AG.
In 1997, Johan was the Chairman and CEO of Philips South Africa. During his time in South Africa, he was Chairman of the Criminal Justice Portfolio Task Group and a member of the Board of Directors of Business Against Crime. From October 2001 to December 2002, while assuming his Regional Executive position for the region, he was also the Chairman and CEO of Philips in Singapore, where he also served as a member of the Board of the Singapore government-led Economic Review Committee and Chairman of the Subcommittee for Manufacturing.
Born in The Netherlands in 1945, Johan studied Business Economics at the University of Amsterdam. Mr. Van Splunter is married, with two daughters. He is fluent in Dutch, English, French, Spanish and German.
