Born in 1956 in Hoogeveen, the Netherlands, he graduated in Economics from the Erasmus University of Rotterdam in 1982.
Mr. Hooghiemstra spent three years with the Amro Bank before joining the Hay Group in 1986, becoming a member of its European Executive Board and a partner of the Hay Group Exempted Partnership.
Joining Philips in 1996, he was appointed managing director of human resources management for what became the Consumer Electronics division. He became senior vice-president of Human Resources in January 2000.
