Philips speaker system awarded for innovative design in Hong Kong

Hong Kong - The Portable Speakers SBA 1500 from Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) has won in the category of the Best Design from Greater China of the Design for Asia Award 2006. The award was granted for the speaker system's outstanding achievements of design and adds to the many accolades Philips' sound accessories have already garnered.

The Design for Asia Award is presented to companies from around the world that have generated business success through good design that reflects, or has an impact on, Asian lifestyles. This year, more than 500 entries in four design areas (apparel and accessories, communication, interior/spatial, and product design) were submitted for the award from across North America, Europe and Asia.

 

Established in 2003, the Design for Asia Award is organized by the Hong Kong Design Center, co-organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and supported by the Innovation and Technology Commission of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. It is dedicated to promoting design excellence and raising awareness amongst businesses and the public about design as an essential component in business success and the enjoyment of life. Entries are judged on three criteria: good design, impact on Asian lifestyle and influence in Asia, and commercial success of the design. The panel of judges comprises high-caliber and esteemed local experts as well as international experts with local exposure.

 

The Award will be presented to Philips at a Gala Dinner, which forms part of Business of Design Week 2006. The guest of honor at the dinner will be Henry Tang, Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong SAR Government.

 

Winning Designs will be displayed at the Innovation & Design Expo that will take place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center between November 29, 2006 and December 1, 2006. They will also be featured in an Award brochure along with comments from the panel of international judges.

 

Philips SBA 1500 is a portable compact speaker system compatible with all mobile sources of music. It offers a wide stereo sound stage with integrated amplifier for powerful Bass. The separate speaker pieces can be combined to form a compact carrying unit. The two speakers feature a pure cut sphere shape that fits stylishly into any environment.
