Philips Volunteers Ring the Bell of Benevolence

Philips Volunteer Team rang the bell of benevolence with 60 elderly members of the Chung Sing Benevolence Society in Shun Tin Estate, Kwun Tong. Chung Sing, meaning "sound of bells" in Chinese, is a well established charity that focuses on the welfare of the elderly in need.

On 2 December 2006, the Philips Volunteers went to Chung Sing Benevolence Society’s Fong Wong Woon Tei Neighbourhood Centre. They played games with the elderly, who reciprocated the benevolence of the volunteers by staging a variety of performances, sharing their talents and expertise. Both the volunteers and the elderly practiced light exercises that promoted healthy living.

The event ended with the Philips Volunteers giving out Philips rice cookers that brightened up the lives of the elderly.

“We are deeply encouraged by the positive attitude of the elderly. They truly live up to the aim of the Chung Sing Benevolence Society, which is to ring the bell of fruitful living and mutual support,” said Ms Yeung Chiu, Director of Brand Management and Corporate Communications of Philips.

The Philips Volunteer Team had a busy year in 2006 – visiting a number of charitable organizations and bringing care and support to underprivileged children, elderly and families in need in various corners of Hong Kong.

“Philips has a tradition of benevolence – in Hong Kong, and in other parts of the world where Philips has a presence. While we are a world leader in introducing innovative lighting solutions, we never forget our social responsibility of bringing the light of benevolence to the less privileged in society,” said Ms Chiu.
