Following the showcase of its LED-based solutions for home lighting, Philips also reinforced its leadership in the field of lighting by showcasing its most groundbreaking innovations: the OLED intuitive interactive lighting concepts for the home.
Enhancing Lives Through Light
The concepts are the first viable interactive prototypes that make full use of the unique characteristics of this ultra-thin light source and the soft light effect they create, combined with LUXEON Power LEDs for functional lighting. These intuitive lighting sculptures respond to human gestures, and can be brightened or dimmed with a wave of the hand. The result is a new type of lighting experience that reinvents the way Philips designs luminaires and enables consumers to illuminate their homes.
OLEDs in action
The OLED concepts, called OH…LEDs! include a wall-mounted and table-top design. They all incorporate soft glowing OLED light panels in a sleek, elegant armature, and LEDs for functional lighting. The designs are both decorative and functional providing different ambient and intuitive interactive capabilities that turn lighting into an interactive art.
Designing experiences
“Through our leadership in solid-state lighting we are taking the home lighting business into exciting new territory,” says Allard Bijlsma. “It started with the LED-based Philips LivingColors range that provides a fresh approach to lighting, putting literally millions of colors at consumers’ fingertips to create ambience for different moments in their homes with the touch of a button. Then there was Philips Ledino – probably the most extensive and advanced portfolio of functional indoor and outdoor LED-based lighting on the market today. Now we’re making OLED lighting a reality and giving form to lighting in ways that have never been seen before.”
Philips consumer home lighting products and solutions build on years of research and commitment to developing innovative, energy efficient lighting solutions which began with the introduction of the first energy saving light bulb. Philips consumer home lighting fittings represent Philips’ latest innovation in developing energy efficient lighting solutions and designs based on a deep understanding of Asian consumers and their lifestyles.
“Homes in Asia are becoming increasingly valued as home owners seek opportunities to create personal sense of their home spaces. Although consumers recognize that lighting can play a role, the extent of the impact that lighting can make in the home environment is not yet fully appreciated,” said Rowena Lee, Senior Marketing Director, Lighting Division, Philips Lighting Asia Commercial. “Through Philips branded stores throughout the region, consumers can now shop in realistic home environments and be easily guided through different options and choices in home lighting decoration.
