Why is the picture on my Philips TV distorted (stretched out, short and fat, black bars on side or top, etc.)? Is there something I can do to make it better?

Published on 2016-12-13

The image you see on screen depends on how the signal is formatted and how the TV is set to display that signal. If the signal is formatted with black bars or columns, then the TV may not be able to fully remove the black areas from the screen.

To optimize your format, press the ' FORMAT ' button on the remote control repeatedly to select the screen format that gives the most pleasant picture display on screen.

  • This will be the format that the TV will display the picture until you select another format.

If the problem is not resolved,

  • Check if the TV is connected to a Cable or Satellite box, you may need to set the picture format in the Cable or Satellite box.

For detailed information, please refer to the user manual of the Cable/Satellite box or contact the cable company for further assistance.
