How to improve the sound quality of my Philips TV?

  • Check the quality of the incoming signal on the TV with a different Source like DVD or VCR
  • Splitting the signal will make it considerably weaker. If you use an antenna cable splitter: connect the antenna directly.
  • Check your cables and cable-connections
    • Make all your cables as short as possible
    • Use high quality antenna cable
    • Connect the plugs well into their sockets

Check whether the sound quality has improved. If not:

You can use the [Sound] button on the remote control to set your TV to a predefined sound mode that will give you the best sound quality.

Alternatively, you can set your personal sound preference by following these steps:

  1. Press the [Menu] button on the remote control to access the main menu
  2. Press the cursor [Down] to select [Sound] and press the cursor [Right] to access the sound menu
  3. Press the cursor [Up][Down] to access the sound settings
  4. Press the cursor [Right] to select and use the cursor buttons to adjust them to suit your preferences and press the [OK] button to confirm
  5. Press the [Back] button to exit the menu
  6. If there is no sound, press the [Mute] or volume button on the remote control

If the TV is connected to the audio system:

  1. Check the connection with the audio system
  2. Switch the audio system to the correct source
  3. Turn the volume of the audio system up

If you do not have sound or bad sound on one or a few channels, the problem is with the reception or the broadcasting quality of these channels.

Follow these steps to check if it solves the problem;

Fine-tune the analogue channel(s). Fine-tuning can be useful when the frequency has shifted a bit or when interference of another frequency occurs.

  1. Press the [Menu] button on the remote control to access the main menu
  2. Press the cursor [Down] to select [Installation] and press the cursor [Right] to access the installation menu
  3. Press the cursor [Down] to select [Channel Install] and press the cursor [Right] to access the channel installation menu
  4. If the channel lock is activated, the screen will prompt you to enter your pin code. If you have forgotten your pin code, refer to the FAQ ('I have forgotten my 4-digit pin code. How can I reset it?').
  5. Press the cursor [Down] to select [Manual Install] and press the cursor [Right]
  6. Press the cursor [Down] to SOUND SYSTEM and press the cursor [Right]
  7. Check if the sound system is set to the correct sound system
  8. If you are not sure of the sound system used in your location, press the cursor [Up][Down] to select [AUTO] and press the [OK] button to confirm
  9. Press the cursor [Down] to select [Fine Tune] and press the cursor [Right]
  10. Adjust the frequency with the cursor [Up][Down] in case of poor reception of the channel found
  11. Press the [OK] button once adjustment is completed
  12. Press the cursor [Down] to select [STORE CUR CHAN] and press the cursor [Right]
  13. Select [OK] and press the [OK] to [Store] the frequency
  14. Press the [Back] button to exit the menu

Reinstall the channel(s):

  1. Press the [Menu] button on the remote control to access the main menu
  2. Press the cursor [Down] to select [Installation] and press the cursor [Right] to access the installation menu
  3. Press the cursor [Down] to select [Channel Install] and press the cursor [Right] to access the channel installation menu
  4. If the channel lock is activated, the screen will prompt you to enter your pin code. If you have forgotten your pin code, refer to the FAQ ('I have forgotten my 4-digit pin code. How can I reset it?').
  5. Select [Channel Assistant] and press the cursor [Right] to access the automatic installation screen
  6. Select [Start] and press the [OK] button to [Start] auto programming
  7. The menu screen disappears and the progress of auto programming is displayed. The progress bar indicates the number of analogue channels found.
  8. Once the installation is completed, press the [OK] button to confirm and exit the menu

If the problem is still not solved, contact the broadcaster or your provider to verify whether there is a broadcasting problem.
