How to descale my Philips Semi-Automatic 2000 Espresso Machine

Get ready for the descaling cycle
- Make sure the machine is ON.
- Remove the drip tray, empty it, and put it back into place.
- Remove the water tank and empty it.
- Pour the whole bottle of Philips Espresso machine descaler* into the water tank and then fill it with water up to the “MAX” of the descaling icon on the tank.
- Take an empty cup basket and place it in the portafilter.
- Lock the portafilter at the brew position.
- Place a large container (equal to or larger than 1.2L) under the spout openings of the portafilter, and another container (equal to or larger than 1.2L) under the hot water/steam wand (fig. 1).
First phase: descaling cycle
- Press the Espresso and Double Espresso buttons simultaneously to start the descaling cycle. (Lasts approximately 4 minutes).
- The machine will start dispensing the descaling solution from the spout openings of the portafilter and the hot water/steam wand. Both the Espresso and Double Espresso buttons keep flashing until the dispensing stops.
- Clear and rinse the water tank, and then fill it with water up to the “MAX”. (fig. 2)
- Clear out the water in the containers and put them under the spout openings of the portafilter and the hot water/steam wand.
- Press the Power On button, all indicators/buttons keep flashing, indicating the machine is ready for the rinsing cycle.
- Press any buttons for brewing espresso, double espresso, or capsule coffee to start rinsing (which lasts approximately 3 minutes). The machine will start dispensing hot water from the spout openings of the portafilter and the hot water/steam wand until it stops, and then the “Power On”button starts flashing for heat-up mode.
