How to descale my Philips Semi-Automatic 2000 Espresso Machine

Published on 10 July 2024
Descaling your Philips Semi-Automatic 2000 Espresso Machine when the descaling indicator blinks will ensure great coffee taste and temperature. Find the steps below on how to easily do it yourself.

Get ready for the descaling cycle

  1. Make sure the machine is ON.
  2. Remove the drip tray, empty it, and put it back into place.
  3. Remove the water tank and empty it.
  4. Pour the whole bottle of Philips Espresso machine descaler* into the water tank and then fill it with water up to the “MAX” of the descaling icon on the tank.
  5. Take an empty cup basket and place it in the portafilter.
  6. Lock the portafilter at the brew position.
  7. Place a large container (equal to or larger than 1.2L) under the spout openings of the portafilter, and another container (equal to or larger than 1.2L) under the hot water/steam wand (fig. 1).
Note*: Please, only use the Philips Espresso machine descaler (Descaling solution CA6700). You can find the Philips Espresso machine descaler in local and online retailers or from authorized service centers.

First phase: descaling cycle
  1. Press the Espresso and Double Espresso buttons simultaneously to start the descaling cycle. (Lasts approximately 4 minutes).
  2. The machine will start dispensing the descaling solution from the spout openings of the portafilter and the hot water/steam wand. Both the Espresso and Double Espresso buttons keep flashing until the dispensing stops.
Second phase: rinsing cycle
  1. Clear and rinse the water tank, and then fill it with water up to the “MAX”. (fig. 2)
  2. Clear out the water in the containers and put them under the spout openings of the portafilter and the hot water/steam wand.
  3. Press the Power On button, all indicators/buttons keep flashing, indicating the machine is ready for the rinsing cycle.
  4. Press any buttons for brewing espresso, double espresso, or capsule coffee to start rinsing (which lasts approximately 3 minutes). The machine will start dispensing hot water from the spout openings of the portafilter and the hot water/steam wand until it stops, and then the “Power On”button starts flashing for heat-up mode.
Since the water type varies by area, if you live in a region with hard water and feel the need to descale more often, you could descale ahead of descaling indicator blinks. Simply follow the above steps to repeat the descaling and rinse cycle.
