My Philips Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine does not froth milk
Published on 10 July 2024
If your Philips Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine is not frothing milk, read our article below for possible causes and solutions.
We recommend always using cold refrigerated milk to ensure great milk foam. If the milk temperature is high, it can affect the frothing quality.
To produce a great milk froth, make sure the jug is filled with the right amount of milk. We recommend you fill the jug (120 ml) with milk for the first time and adjust the milk amount depending on your taste preferences and the type of coffee.
Various types of milk can result in different amounts of foam and quality. We recommend you use one of the following milk types:
Semi-skimmed cow's milk
Full-fat cow’s milk
Lactose-free milk
To create a good milk froth, you need to position the milk jug and hot water/steam wand the right way. Make sure the end of the hot water/steam wand is below the surface* of the milk and that the jug is tilted (see images below). You can also refer to your User Manual for detailed instructions. *Philips Semi-Automatic: 5mm below milk surface
To prevent the taste of milk foam from being affected and an unpleasant aroma caused by overheated milk, your Philips Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine has a built-in feature that automatically stops steaming after 90 seconds. To restart the steam function, simply switch the knob to the stop icon and then back to the steam icon.
Cleaning the milk system and its related parts regularly and thoroughly will ensure a good quality milk froth. For that, you can find a detailed step-by-step guide in the User Manual.
Note: Always make sure you prevent milk from drying up in the milk circuit system, as it may be hard to remove.
As the machine circuit can become blocked by limescale, we recommend you descale the machine regularly, and always when the descaling indication starts to flash. Please follow the detailed instructions which you can find in the User Manual.
