My Philips Dehumidifier smells bad or like plastic

If your Philips Dehumidifier or 2in1 Air Purifier and Dehumidifier produces a bad odor, please find out the possible causes and solutions here.

First times usage (plastic smell)

The first times you use your Philips Dehumidifier, it might produce a plastic smell. Do not worry this is normal and the smell will fade away.

The filter is dirty (bad smell)

Note: the following information is only applicable to models DE520x and DE5305.

 

A dirty filter can produce a bad smell. If this is the case, please clean or replace the filter as recommended for your specific dehumidifier.

There is residual water in the water tank

The residual water in the water tank could cause a bad smell. To avoid the smell and maintain hygiene, please empty the water tank and air dry it thoroughly before storing.
