If the ground coffee is too coarse, it can result in under-extraction, leading to low pressure, short brewing time, and a bitter and watery taste. With the Philips Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine with an integrated grinder, you can grind the beans to a finer coarse grind. You can choose from 15 different grind settings, with lower numbers indicating finer grounds, resulting in a stronger coffee taste.
Making a delicious cup of coffee with your machine requires proper tamping of the ground coffee. If the coffee is not tamped with enough force, it can lower the pressure and reduce brewing time, resulting in an under-extracted drink witha bitter and watery taste. To prevent this, apply enough force so that the top edge of the metal cap on the tamper is level with the top of the portafilter holder. Some models feature a calibrated tamper, which allows you to control the force more accurately.
If you use less ground coffee than the recommended amount, the result will not have the desired strength and it may taste watery. You can refer to the optimum amount in the User Manual specific to your model.
