Water droplets are coming out from my Philips Handheld Steamer or Steam Iron

Published on 07 April 2025

To prevent water droplets from coming out from your Philips Handheld Steamer or Steam Iron, check the steps below to solve this. Please note that the images below are generic and there can be some differences among specific appliances.

When your Philips appliance is in preheating mode, the water has not yet been fully heated, and you may notice droplets dripping from the steam panel.

Preheating takes around 25 seconds; the indicator will light up when it is ready for use (indicated in the below image). The preheating time may be different among models, please refer to the User Manual specific to your model.

It is normal for some condensed water from the last session to remain within the steam flow path. You can wait a few more seconds after the preheating to solve this. The residual water droplets will be evaporated.

The information below does not apply to model STE0850.

If your Philips Handheld Steamer has a built-in water tank, please do not point the water inlet downwards, to avoid water from dribbling.

Sometimes, scale or calcification can form inside your appliance, and this can cause it to drip some water. In regions with hard water, this can be noticed more often.

Ensure that the water tank is emptied after a steaming session to prevent this.

Besides this, we recommend you use a combination of demineralized/distilled water (50%) mixed with tap water (50%).

Your Philips Handheld Steamer or Steam Iron has a descaling mode to help you remove scale. We recommend descaling when stains or impurities are produced or when the steam starts to become weaker.

For specific descaling instructions according to your model please see your User Manual.
