When and how to clean the parts of your espresso machine
Portafilter and cup filter basket
You should keep the portafilter clean, by rinsing both the inside and outside, as well as the cup filter baskets thoroughly, after every use.
Press the Espresso button to rinse the remaining ground coffee at the dispensing spout, portafilter, and cup filter. Every month or when the holes in the cup filter are blocked, you should clean them using the cleaning pin tool (Fig. 1).
Capsule portafilter
Please clean it after every use. Turn the capsule portafilter clockwise to unlock it from the brewing outlet.
Clear out the used capsule and residual water from the capsule portafilter (Fig. 2).
Then press the Capsule Coffee button and thoroughly rinse the brewing outlet, top capsule holder, and portafilter head inside and outside, with hot water to avoid coffee powder blockage. Note: please be extra thorough with the filter (Fig. 3).
Hot water/steam wand
After every use, wipe the hot water/steam wand with a damp cloth thoroughly, and then start the steam function for 5 to 10 seconds to remove any milk residue. If it is clogged, clean the hole in front of the wand with the thicker end of the cleaning pin tool supplied in your Philips Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine. (fig.4).
Machine front
Every week, you can clean the front of your machine using a damp cloth to remove coffee stains and ground coffee residues.
Drip tray
Make sure to empty the drip tray daily, or once the red “drip tray full” indicator pops up. We recommend cleaning the drip tray at least once a week. You can remove and rinse it under the tap with some dishwashing liquid or use your dishwasher.
Water tank
Simply rinse the water tank under the tap weekly.
Grinder and ground coffee outlet
Your Philips Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine features a coffee grinder which allows you to control your brewing results even further.
To prevent the ground coffee outlet from getting clogged, please clean the grinder and the ground coffee outlet every two weeks using the included cleaning brush. For more detailed steps please refer to the User Manual.
