How to improve the picture quality of Philips TV?

Published on 2016-12-29

In order to enjoy the highest picture quality available, make sure that your setup complies with the following conditions:

  1. Connect the signal source by means of a HDMI cable.
  2. Verify that the source signal is of High Definition (HD) content, which means either the 1080i or the 1080p video format.
  3. You will only be able to enjoy the full advantages of High Definition content if you connect your external device by means of a HDMI cable.
  4. If your external device does not have HDMI outputs, the next best option is the YPbPr (also called component or YUV) connection.
  5. Make sure the TV has the latest software installed.

If you use a direct cable connection from the wall outlet:

1) Check the incoming cable or antenna signal connection to make sure that it is properly secured to the TV's antenna input.

You can check the quality of the signal reception in the options menu.

  1. While you watch TV channel, press the [Options] button on the remote control to display the Options menu.
  2. To select an option on the top menu, press the [OK] button.
  3. Use the [Cursor buttons] to select [Options] in the top menu and press the [OK] button.
  4. Press the cursor [Down] to select [Status] or [Channels status] and press the [OK] button.
  5. The status menu appears displaying an overview of the current TV information.

2) Although an analog connection does not offer the same quality, you can still obtain an excellent picture if you observe the following guidelines:

a. Check your cables and cable-connections.

  • Make all your cables as short as possible.
  • Use high quality antenna cable.
  • Connect the plugs well into their sockets.
  • Do not use an antenna cable splitter. Splitting the signal will make it considerably weaker.

b. Change the picture settings on your TV. The standard configuration is set to match the conditions in a TV shop.

You can use the Picture style in the Options menu to set your TV to a predefined mode that will give you the best picture quality.

Follow these steps to select the settings that suit to your preferences:

  1. Press the [Options] button on the remote control to access the [Options] menu.
  2. To select an option on the top menu, press the [OK] button.
  3. Use the [Cursor buttons] to select [Picture and sound] in the top menu and press the [OK] button.
  4. Select [Picture style] and press the [OK] button to display the list of available settings.
  5. Press the cursor [Up] or [Down] to select the predefined settings according to your preference and press the [OK] button to confirm.
  6. Press the [Options] button to exit the menu.

Alternatively, follow these steps to manually adjust the settings that suit to your preferences:

  1. Press the [Home] button on the remote control to access the home menu.
  2. Use the [Cursor buttons] to select [Setup] and press the [OK] button to confirm.
  3. Select [TV settings] and press the [OK] button.
  4. Select [Picture] and press the cursor [Right].
  5. Press the cursor [Up] or [Down] to select a setting.
  6. Press the cursor [Right] to select and use the cursor buttons to adjust or set them according to your preferences.
  7. Press the [Back] button to exit the menu.

When the TV picture format is set to [Auto zoom], the picture will be displayed according to the broadcast format. You may experience changes in the picture size with different channels.

  • If you wish to set a specific format, press the [Format] button on the remote control repeatedly to select [Wide screen] option or any other format that you feel comfortable with in the list of available formats.

  • This TV does not have a 4:3 option in the list of available formats. If you want to view TV channels or programme from other sources according to the broadcast format, you need to set the picture format to [Auto zoom].
